You Ask

You Ask For a Poem

kindly as if it will save my life
here among twenty seven bird houses
and staunch pink tulips
in front of the gazebo now dressing itself with shrubs
offering their newborn leaves
to passerine marauders

so I attempt to insert these eyes
into the garden and name
the diagonal lattice slats at the edge of the deck
where old blue paint
has succumbed to a black mould
and an empty hot tub
remind us of a growing to-do list.

Ah but every word found here
is a mark against amnesia.

Thank you.
